What is Rendezvous Scarborough known for?
Iconic beachfront destination
Rendezvous Hotel Perth Scarborough sits directly opposite Scarborough Beach, with the Indian Ocean visible from upper-floor rooms. The property’s official site markets it as a “beachfront retreat” and highlights the Horizon Oceanview Rooms on levels 20 through 25 as a premium category (Rendezvous Hotel Perth Scarborough). The hotel’s 337 rooms and 24 meeting spaces make it one of the larger purpose-built conference venues on the WA coast (Rendezvous Hotels Official Site – corporate).
Dining at Straits Café
The on-site restaurant is Straits Café, which, according to the content plan data, serves breakfast daily from 8 am to 11 am. The adult breakfast price is listed as A$59 (based on the content plan stats line, not independently verified). The official site does not list other dining venues, though the 2014 relaunch included new dining spaces (Hotel Management).
Tip: If ocean views are your priority, request a room above level 20. The Horizon Oceanview category is specifically marketed for that.

What are people saying about Rendezvous Hotel Perth Scarborough?
Positive feedback
Location dominates the praise. On Booking.com the hotel’s location subscore is 9.3/10, and on Agoda it scores 9.2 (Booking.com; Agoda). Tripadvisor reviewers frequently call out the “beachfront location and ocean views” as the hotel’s strongest selling point (Tripadvisor). Expedia’s summary notes “guests say great things about the beach locale, pool, and helpful staff” (Expedia).
“Guests say great things about the beach locale, pool, and helpful staff.”
— Expedia editorial review summary
“Perth’s first and only beachside hotel high rise… is getting a summer glow-up thanks to a multi-million-dollar investment.”
— Warwick Kahl, TFE Hotels Regional General Manager for WA
Common criticisms
The most consistent complaint across platforms is that rooms feel dated and cleanliness is patchy. KAYAK summarises that “some guests found the hotel is in need of renovation, with complaints about cleanliness, outdated facilities, and ongoing construction” (KAYAK). On Booking.com the value-for-money score is 7.3/10, which is the lowest subscore. Tripadvisor’s average of 3.8/5 (on a 5‑point scale) reflects the same split: excellent location but mixed satisfaction with the physical product.
“The hotel provides the perfect blend of coastal relaxation and urban convenience.”
— Rendezvous Hotel official site
What this means: The hotel’s beachfront position is near-universally liked, but the condition of the rooms is a real factor. Several thousand reviews point to the same gap, so it’s not an outlier opinion.
Heads-up: A two-year refurbishment program announced in November 2024 covers 330 rooms, the entrance, conference space, pool and public areas (The Hotel Conversation). Current guests may encounter construction disruption, so check with the hotel directly about the stage of works before booking.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Direct beachfront access with Indian Ocean views from higher floors.
- Large event and conference capacity (24 spaces).
- Multiple review platforms confirm location is the strongest factor.
- Multi-million-dollar refurbishment underway to upgrade rooms and facilities.
Cons
- Rooms widely described as outdated and in need of renovation.
- Value-for-money scores on Booking.com and KAYAK are below 7.5/10.
- Cleanliness complaints appear across multiple platforms.
- Ongoing construction may affect the guest experience during the refurbishment period.
The trade-off: You get a prime beachside location and a large conference hotel, but the current room condition may not match the setting. The refurbishment is designed to close that gap, but it also means you may be staying in a construction zone.
Best for
Based on guest feedback patterns and the hotel’s own positioning, the property works well for three traveller segments:
- Beach vacationers – The direct proximity to Scarborough Beach and the ocean-view rooms are the obvious draw. The hotel’s location score on Agoda is 9.2.
- Couples seeking romance – Several Tripadvisor reviews mention the beachfront setting and sunset views as a romantic backdrop.
- Families looking for convenience – The large room count and on-site parking (check for current availability) make it a practical base for a family beach holiday.
The pattern: The same traveller type that values location above all else will be happiest here. Those expecting a freshly renovated room will need to be aware of the current state.
Pricing band
Official room rates are not published on the hotel’s site in a way that allows a fixed price list, but typical two-night package prices appear on booking platforms. Based on data from the content plan, a two-night stay without special offers can be expected in the “upper‑moderate” band for the Scarborough area. Breakfast is A$59 per adult, which is on the higher side for a hotel buffet.
The bottom line: The location commands a premium, but the condition of the rooms may not justify the price for every traveller. Always compare with other Scarborough properties before booking.
How far is Rendezvous Hotel Perth from the city?
The hotel is roughly 15–20 minutes’ drive from the Perth CBD and about 30 minutes from Perth Airport (Rendezvous Hotels Official Site – Rendezvous Hotel Perth Scarborough). Public transport options include the Scarborough Beach Road bus route, which connects to the city. The hotel has on‑site parking (subject to availability and potential disruption during refurbishment).
What to watch: Those relying on public transport should check the current bus schedules, as headway times can vary outside peak hours.
Alternatives in Scarborough
Scarborough has a handful of other accommodation options, though none match the Rendezvous’ scale or event capacity. Smaller beachfront apartments and motels are available within a few blocks. For travellers who prioritise room freshness over size, those alternatives may offer a better fit. The Rendezvous is currently undergoing refurbishment, which may eventually bring its room quality up to par, but in the meantime, checking guest reviews on Booking.com or KAYAK for recent stays is a good way to compare.

The implication: If you’re flexible on hotel size and need a more modern room, a smaller property might serve you better today. If you need large conference facilities or want to be in the biggest beachfront building, the Rendezvous remains the only option of its kind in Scarborough.
Our pick
For beach vacationers and couples who prioritise ocean views and direct beach access above all else, Rendezvous Hotel Perth Scarborough is a solid choice – especially if the ongoing refurbishment has already touched the room you’ll occupy. Families may find the size and location convenient, though the dated condition in some wings is worth factoring into the decision. Business and event guests will appreciate the dedicated conference infrastructure.
Our recommendation: Book only if you are comfortable with the current mixed review pattern and the potential for construction disruption. Verify the refurbishment status for your travel dates by calling the hotel directly. If a modern, worry‑free room is non‑negotiable, consider a smaller alternative in Scarborough or wait until the full refurbishment is complete.
